The tenure-track Assistant Professor candidate at Northwest Missouri State University must exhibit professional level knowledge of the graphic design industry, digital design and current trends in design; evidence of appropriate professional and/or creative activity in design; and an understanding of design history and methodology. Understanding of conceptual approaches, and various art and design practices as well as practical applications in a variety of media. Extensive industry-related working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud of applications.

Teach the following courses that incorporate rigorous critical thinking, challenging problem solving, and help prepare students for life as a professional designer:

1. Teach Graphic Design courses that include the following:
   • Branding and identity process, including historical and contemporary issues in the design industry.
   • Fundamentals of typography, including history, anatomy etc.
   • In-depth typography, using type as a creative tool and contemporary issues in typography.
   • Portfolio development, teaching analysis of contemporary portfolio issues, and knowledge of issues in the contemporary design industry to help best prepare students for lives as professional designers.
2. Teach and have a fundamental understanding of foundational art and design principles that are reinforced in both projects, lectures and critiques.
3. Demonstrate and maintain professional design or other creative activity and research as it relates to professional development as an educator and creative artist.
4. Mentor students through their creative development. 
5. Participate in the advancement of the Graphic Design area through the development of unique and relevant curriculum, committee work, collegiality and recruitment. 
6. Participate in department, University, and community service.
