Assistant or Associate Professor of Industrial Design

Description

The Industrial Design program at the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design, University of Houston, seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member in industrial design with practical experience in the field of industrial design and relevant fields in design research, interactive technology and theory, beginning August 2020.  The appointed faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, work with the Director of the Industrial Design program in developing curriculum while pursuing an agenda of high profile design research, writing and creative production.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have a master degree or higher in industrial design (MFA, MID, MS, Ph.D.) or a related discipline with a record of scholarly and creative work.  Excellence in design and creative works may be demonstrated through a proven track record as an inspired practitioner, educator and/or researcher.  Candidates should possess a strong background and advanced knowledge of contemporary professional practices in one or more of the following areas:  interaction design, UX/UI, digital visualization, design research for and with emerging technology hardware and software.

Responsibilities

The appointee will be required to contribute to teaching undergraduate and graduate industrial design courses, act as student adviser and supervisor to groups and individual students.  The faculty member will be expected to participate in curriculum development, engage in academic and professional community service, and work collaboratively with internal and external research partners, organizations, and corporations.
