Call for Papers: Special journal issue on design methods and processes for pervasive healthcare

05 Jul 2019 (All Day)

Registration for this event has passed

This special issue is a continuation of a workshop ‘Design Contributions to Pervasive Healthcare (DCPH),’ organised as part of the 13th EAI International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare - 20-23 May 2019, Trento, Italy.

While authors of papers submitted to the workshop have been invited to submit a revised and extended version of their manuscript, this special issue is open to submissions not originating from the workshop. Provided they fall within the remit of the special issue theme.

Within the context of this call for paper, Pervasive Healthcare is defined as services,  products or systems of healthcare that are available in most locations for some time, at a specific location for most of the time or everywhere all the time.

This special issue has been planned as a collection of papers on the contribution design (e.g., industrial, interaction, service, or product design) has in Pervasive Healthcare.  In particular, the papers are expected to address reporting, analysis and critique of design methodologies and processes at the different stages of maturity of Pervasive Healthcare designs (e.g., exploration, conceptualisation, iterative prototyping, implementation, validation of effects, final product). Discussions are encouraged to address the contribution (e.g., research/design goal), procedures (e.g., validation setup), and methods (e.g., measurement tools) that these different stages have on design and healthcare.

The context of Pervasive Healthcare includes, yet is not limited to:

  • Provide a user-centred approach, to facilitate motivation, engagement and support; to address user’s needs and their vulnerability;
  • Match the users’ needs, their expectations and lifestyles; provide daily interactions that are seamless, adequate and effective; foster long-lasting motivation and engagement that are conducive to effective healthcare
  • Address management of personal health-related data in an ethical, informed and empowered way; ensure valid user data (e.g., compliance and honesty), manage data and content (e.g., overflow, overabundance or scarcity); take into account and adapt to the users’ contexts
  • Minimise if not avoid unforeseen side-effects due to the pervasive healthcare system interventions in the users’ daily lives
  • Deliver a concept, a prototype or a working product, system or service that deliver pervasive healthcare or part thereof; deliver usable and user serviceable technology
  • Investigate different design methods, approaches, and processes within the context of pervasive healthcare
