    • The Design Research Society is an international member society founded in 1966 to enable and promote research into the process of design in all its many fields. Members of the society span a wide range of academic disciplines as well as working professionally in design practice. The DRS provides support for its membership through an interactive web platform, social media channels, quarterly newsletter, annual events, a prestigious biennial conference, student research bursaries, special interest groups and a digital library.

      We are looking for candidates with the following qualities: 

      • An interest in design research or other relevant field (desired);  
      • An excellent understanding of the English language (essential); 
      • Good interpersonal and communication skills (essential);  
      • Self-motivated, organised, and able to meet deadlines (essential); 
      • Experience of using social media and other web-tools for promotional purposes (essential); 
      • Experience of publishing online magazine or news articles (desired); 
      • Ability to use Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar packages in thinking graphically about the presentation of content (desired); 
      • A commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive practices (essential)


      Note: There is flexibility in the geographical location of the candidate given that the work is conducted remotely and online.

    Following the excellent work of our current Online Editor, who is shortly to step down, we are looking to continue engagement with our membership, as well as the field of design research more generally, through the appointment of a new Online Editor. This role is key in helping the Society to meet strategic objectives of international growth and influence over the coming years.

    Role Summary

    The Online Editor will use their knowledge of design research to work with the DRS Administrator, Publications Editor and the Executive Board to create and manage content of interest to the membership of the DRS and to the full diversity of design researchers worldwide. The Online Editor will report to the DRS Administrator. 

    It is anticipated that the role of Online Editor will take 8 hours per week on average, attracting a monthly salary of GBP 624.00 (or equivalent). 

    Key Responsibilities

    • To source, edit and upload content to the DRS website on a weekly basis; 
    • To promote web content through direct communication with members and social media channels; 
    • To liaise with members of the DRS Executive Board and International Advisory Council in meeting particular promotional or reporting needs (for example to coincide with major events such as the biennial conference); 
    • To maintain the external-face of the DRS website and social media channels.
