The vision of London Design Festival is to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world.
London Design Festival was conceived by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans in 2003. Building on London’s existing design activity, their concept was to create an annual event that would promote the city’s creativity, drawing in the country’s greatest thinkers, practitioners, retailers and educators to a deliver an unmissable celebration of design. The launch of the first Festival took place at Bloomberg on 25 March 2003, with a huge show of support from design, education, government and London organisations. 15 years later, this vision remains ever strong.
In 2017, the Festival welcomed an estimated audience of 420,000 visitors from over 75 countries during the 9 days of the Festival period. Encompassing an extensive programme across the Capital - Global Design Forum, 2 Landmark Projects, 3 Design Routes, 5 Design Destinations, 9 Design Districts, 13 Project Commissions at the V&A, and 300 Partners and Events - #LDF17 was one of the biggest and most successful editions to date.
