The Design Research Society (DRS) International Conference 2012 "Re:Search" was held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. 1–4 July 2012.
Papers addressed notions of ‘Re:Search : uncertainty, contradiction and value’ in contemporary design research, education and/or practice. Issues addressed include: creativity and the institutionalization of design methodologies; design science; design in the academy and the so-called creative economy or creative industry; sustainability versus commodification; criticality and culture; conflicting definitions of design and designer in the contemporary world; design and ethics; individuality, the disciplinary and social contexts; exchange value and surplus value; and absolute values versus relative values.

Represented at the conference were the four DRS Special Interest Groups -EKSiG (Special Interest Group on Experiential Knowledge); SIGWELL (Special Interest Group on Health and Wellbeing); SiGPED (Special Interest Group on Design Pedagogy); OPENSIG (Special Interest Group for Objects, Practices, Experiences, Networks) chaired by the SiG conveners.
