The Design Research Society is an international learned society representing the needs of design researchers, design educators and design professionals. We currently have nearly 1000 members worldwide.
Member subscriptions are vital to allow the Society to achieve its objectives in promoting Design Research across all disciplines as well as providing member benefits such as discounts to conferences and events along with access to the latest information.
Membership of the Design Research Society is open to everyone involved with, or associated with, design research in all its forms, from any country, and who support the aims of the society.
There are four levels of membership:
Members of the DRS are those who have paid the annual membership fee of £30 (GBP). Members are entitled to nominate and vote in council elections, held once a year, and to attend the Annual General Meeting.
Student Membership costs £30 for three years' membership which aims to cover the period of study. As with standard membership, student members enjoy a number of benefits as well as being entitled to nominate and vote in council elections, held once a year, and attend the Annual General Meeting. Students members are eligible to apply for a DRS Student Bursary of up to £500 (GBP) to support their research.
To be eligible for student membership applicants must provide evidence that they are currently pursuing a post-graduate qualification in a design-related area by filling out an application form prior to purchasing a student membership.
Members of the Society with significant design research experience can apply to become a Fellow of the DRS. There are currently 36 Fellows in the Society (List of current Fellows). Becoming a Fellow is a distinct award that recognises a significant contribution to Design Research and that entitles the use of the suffix 'FDRS' in the member's title. Fellows pay an annual fee of £60.
You cannot apply for Honorary Fellowship status. Lifetime achievement awards are made to Fellows of the Design Research Society who have made a significant and sustained contribution to design research. This is an honorary award that entitles the use of the suffix 'Hon. FDRS' in the Member's title.
